Toowoomba to Brisbane Passenger Rail Assessment

Modeller

The Melbourne-Brisbane Inland railway passes near Toowoomba and is being developed as a fright only route. We used the SEQ 4S model to assess the feasibility of having a passenger rail run between Brisbane and Toowoomba. To do this the model required the demographics/network details of Brisbane and Toowoomba and everywhere in-between. It also required to GTFS feeds for both Toowoomba and Brisbane's public transport timetables and routes to be combined. Multiple routes and timetables were then set up in the model so that different rail route options could be tested and compared. The 4S model was used to determine the average patronage on each section of the rail, and accessibility plots were used to highlight regions with the largest benefit.
