South East Transit Supporting Infrastructure and Services Study – Development of SET-SIMCAT Sketch Planning Tool

Queensland Transport

1997

Principal Modeller

As part of their planning for the proposed busway along the South East Freeway Corridor, Queensland Transport commissioned a number of consultants under the banner of the South East Transit Supporting Infrastructure and Services Study (SISS). Between them, these studies considered the whole range of planning issues associated with the busway. Peter was responsible for SISS 6- the forecasting of demand for the busway. This was done through the development of a sketch planning tool, which allowed the rapid testing of a number of possible designs for the busway, particularly the impact of the number of stations and the speed at which buses could travel on the busway. The model also made predictions of the likely demand at each of the busway stations, and the breakdown of demand by access mode (walk-on, kiss’n’ride, park’n’ride, feeder bus).
