The calibration of the ITFEM models required the collection and collation of data from a wide variety of sources. Peter recognised that these data could also be used as input into other parts of the planning process. To facilitate this, Peter collected all of the available data into a Microsoft Access Database and linked as much of the data as possible into the Mapinfo Geographical Information System (GIS). This involved the use of the Oracle RDBMS and the Genamap GIS, since much of the data were stored in these systems. Once the data had been brought together, Peter was able to produce a series of high quality maps and charts for a number of planning exercises, most notably the IRTP. The systems that Peter developed became an integral part of Queensland Transport’s planning process.
